Little children love puppets and will be captivated by them, so as part of your routine class opener you can pull out a soft toy or puppet who will do all the greetings and maybe introduce some new vocabulary.
If you are a parent or a teacher who speaks the native language and the children know it, they might not understand why you sometimes speak to them in their native language, and sometimes using strange new sounds that they do not understand. Puppets are the solution to this problem - because the puppet can ONLY speak in English.
Because the children will love the puppet they will WANT to communicate with it and will therefore be motivated to say "Hello" and help the puppet out when he cannot remember how to say English words and so on!
